Post-Soviet transition and Russia’s 1998 crisis

Post-Soviet transition | research questions. Conceptual relationship map, not measured results.

Ownership changes, institutional disruption, financial pressures and concentrated fortunes shaped the transition. Russia’s 1998 crisis is a specific episode within a diverse regional history.

Power question: when public assets and financial access changed hands, who obtained lasting influence

and who lacked bargaining power? Avoidance question: how could alternative sequencing, institutional protections and ownership structures have changed the distribution of gains and losses? Lab proposal: compare privatisation and finance mechanisms with attention to capture, employment, household security and entry for new firms.
